So what is Kai?

Why we built Kai
AI technology is moving fast, and most of it wasn’t made with children in mind. But that’s exactly why we believe it’s so important to build safe, creative AI experiences from the ground up.
Kids are already using AI on platforms meant for adults. Nearly 72% of US teens have used an AI companion and 44% of UK children aged 7–12 have tried AI tools, and often without their parents even knowing. And the risks are real: most platforms don’t have filters, don’t explain how data is collected and don’t give parents any visibility into how the tools are being used. Plus, many of the AI tools that kids use are so-called companion bots that pretend to be friends and can emotionally manipulate users. We’ll never build those. Kids deserve real connection, not artificial intimacy. Companion chatbots blur the line between what’s real and what’s not, and they can create unhealthy attachments. With Kai, we’re focused on creativity, exploration and self-expression, not simulated friendships.
